Paranmanjang literally means “ups and downs” or checkered past in Hangul (Korean).
In English, it is known by Night-fishing.
- Experiment with the unusual and uncommon and use the "weapons of mass literature" in patterns and structures that are uncomfortable to you to write a NARRATIVE based on two scenes from the film, Paranmanjang.
- Watch the film Park Chan-Wook film, Paranmanjang, in its entirety.
- Re-watch the first two minutes and forty-four seconds of the film and write it as a NARRATIVE (story, prose, descriptive language).
- Re-watch the TIME FRAME assigned to you and write it as a NARRATIVE (story, prose, descriptive language).
- Title the scene by time. Use words as opposed to numbers, for example: zero one colon zero zero minutes. A subtitle is OK.
- This is an interpretation. Be creative, imaginative and “risky” with your writing, for example: if you want to write dialogue and do not know how to translate, IMAGINE what the character(s) is saying based on the information in the scene.
- Experiment with the following in the your NARRATIVE writing:
- juxtaposition to establish mood, atmosphere, and tone
- concise and concrete language; purposeful connotation/diction
- metaphor and/or simile
- personification
- two-word alliterations
- allusions and symbols
- fresh experimental language
- experiment with punctuation. Rewrite sentences in a variety of ways using a variety of punctuation patterns
- mix up sentence lengths
Based on the instructions and expectations the EVALUATION will be collaboratively constructed.
